Bell’s Palsy

Bell’s Palsy is a weakness or paralysis that affects the muscles of the face. It is caused by a viral infection, an inflammation, or damage to the facial cranial nerve. It usually affects one side of the face, though it may affect both sides.

Symptoms of Bell’s Palsy include facial numbness, weakness, drooping or paralysis, inability to smile or eat on affected side, loss of taste, inability to blink or close the eye, facial twitching, dry eyes, tearing, pain in the back of the head, ear, side of the face, impaired speech, numbness, and fatigue.

Patients suffering from Bell’s Palsy can benefit from holistic chiropractic care of the face, TMJ, and spinal adjustments to the neck to correct misalignments which irritate or put pressure on facial nerves and interfere with the proper functioning of the nervous system.

Electric muscle stimulation, cranial therapy, cool laser, and nutritional advice are also effective complementary therapies for significantly decreasing the normal recovery and healing time of Bell’s Palsy.
